On the topic of taking out a skilled & analytical competitor by playing as an unpredictable/non rational actor, I often say that “beginners luck” in poker is actually just a function of the new player not knowing wtf is in their hand and thus innately being unreadable. I’ve always found it rather funny that in most variations of poker, The worst thing a new player can do in a game against an experienced player, is actually learn the rules because not only do the more ways you understand the game works, open more avenue for your opponent to manipulate you, you also become instantly susceptible to other players perceptive abilities the moment you understand what makes a good hand. And keeping in line with the poker comparison/metaphor, Yorins philosophy seems to be, along the lines of “the only way to beat a master poker player is to refuse to learn how to play and go off vibes alone”

Re: what brennan was saying about how moments of vulnerability lead to an empathetic reaction and connection in some people and a negative reaction in others -- I've been thinking a lot recently about how so many people, especially in the US right now, are flocking and clinging to conspiracy theories or strongman bullies or religion or social hierarchies or whatever their thing is because they feel scared and out of control and they need the comfort of believing that bad things happen for a reason. That the world isn't full of unfathomable chaos and uncertainty, theres a group pulling the strings, its a secret hidden plan. this guy clearly has shit figured out because he acts so confident, so I should probably follow him and he will help me feel in control of my life. Some people recoil from vulnerability because they're scared of it in themselves, they cannot cope with the idea that there is no inherent meaning or virtue in suffering. no one has life figured out, we're all trying to figure it out together, were on a rock hurtling through space and we're each responsible for the things we do, good and terrible. Suvi and her uncle bond over her vulnerability because they recognize themselves in the other. Some people don't seem to have that capacity, but I wonder if the world might be better if more people did...

SEVERANCE SPOILERS I agree that making out in an elevator before you know you’re home safe is naive; but it made perfect sense in the scene- outie mark doesn’t know for certain if he’ll ever see Gemma again- he has to trust innie mark to get them both out of the facility (which, spoiler, innie mark doesn’t do, innie mark stays inside) so for mark to spend the last seconds of his consciousness kissing Gemma is, I think, exactly right, that’s what someone would do if they didn’t know that they’d ever have another second with the person they love

Fun shark facts Bull Sharks despite being saltwater sharks love to travel up freshwater rivers and when you hear about a freshwater shark attack (which is still rare, sharks don't like to attack people) it's usually them. They are also infamous for being considered the most "aggressive" and also trash eating (literally but also they seem to just eat almost anything which is probably related to the "aggression"). In my head he turned into a bull shark which would and could easily navigate the freshwater :)

So I hunted down where the fuck “Avuncular” comes from and it’s basically Latin for “Maternal Uncle.” TL:DR options at the bottom. Also I used google and Wiktionary for this and don’t know shit about Latin, so any “grammar” is purely vibes based. Enjoy!! Google says Maternal Aunt is “Matertera,” so I guess the corresponding word for Auntie shit is Matertercular? Materteral? Materterine? Materterous? Mah-Tear-Tar-us? That’s probably the easiest one to say (and kinda sounds like “Tartarus” which is fun) but the double ter-ter doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. :- / And we can’t shorten it because “Mater” is Mother. Now that being said after doing some digging “Aunt” is from the Latin word Ami (water), which linguists think turned to “Amma/amita” (wet nurse, paternal aunt), and then became “Aunte” in Middle English. So Amitular might also be a good option. Clearly we don’t care that avuncular refers only to maternal uncles so why not use the paternal aunt word? It’s also very fun to say! Ah-Mitt-Tu-Lar. A-Mitch-U-Lar. Ah-Mitt-Chu-Lar. But also avuncular has the word “unc” in it and modern English says FUCK YOU to grammar rules that make words hard to say, so I think we could also roll with Auntacular, though I personally don’t like it because it sounds too much like the modern word and half the fun of avuncular is that people don’t immediately clock the connection to uncles. It sounds lofty and obscure instead of the still very modern move of adding suffixes to words we use daily.

My favorite part of every collaborative storytelling endeavor is when you all look back together and realize that, because of how you structured scenes and cliffhangers around mornings and nights, you have accidentally truncated a crazy amount of events into like 2 months of time.
