I love the Netflix The Witcher. I was surprised how well it was done. I prefer the timeline instead of them in the same timeline with flashback. The Netflix version timeline made it more of an impact to the story. You should read the books. I finished the first 2 books of short stories before the first season. It helped with the timeline. Just have to wait forever for the next season.

Right now I’m rewatching Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood since it’s been so long, and finished Witcher and Mandalorian recently. My family has been watching Babylon 5, so while visiting during Christmas and New Years I saw part of season 4 and 5. I agree with you on the Witcher, I had no idea the timelines were different until almost halfway through the season, but I see so much potential in the show, I’m excited for the next season.

cop shows are usually a hit or miss for me. I really liked the mentalist back then, but I think they extended the show way past it's conclusion. And it's quite rare for me to go check those since I'm more into fantasy or war stuff.

I think this type of thing is bound to happen when you adapt book to series. Often books have a lot of room to leave things to imagination or tell stories in a different order and such. And when you do that on a TV show, not only people might get confused but they might not relate to the character at all. Yennefer existed before meeting Geralt, so even if in the book they don't show that, they kinda have to do that in the series to make sure people don't get lost. So quite often the tv shows have to fill some gaps that might not have in books. Also, good to know there are good sci-fi series going on.

The Expanse. I think I'll catch up on Black Lightning (excellent, and you should watch it) next and I think the CW crossover is ending soon? The rest of the CW shows are tiring or forgettable, but Black Lightning is excellent. Legends is also good because they get so bizarre. And, because it's me, Lin Beifong is awesome.

Here's my top 3 list: 1. The Rookie - AKA Nathan Fillion's new cop show. I always was a big fan of Castle; which is ultimately what inspired me to become an author myself (rather than a mere fanfiction author). So when I discovered that Nathan was starring in a new series in which he does Police work as an actual cop, I was of course intrigued and found myself greatly enjoying it. The only part of the show I've really hated so far, is the episode in which the first Captain on the force meets an untimely demise. I thought that was utterly absurd, especially after a series of events that occur - all because some bitch gets butthurt over Officer Nolan "mistreating" her. That aside, I've greatly enjoyed the show, though after the previous season's cliffhanger ending, I'm really hoping Officer Chen doesn't meet a similar fate. Otherwise, I'm done. 2. The Orville - AKA Seth Macfarlane's Star Trek parody show. Despite being a fan of LeVar Burton and Jonathan Frakes' works, I never was much of a Star Trek fan. Medieval fantasies were always more my thing. Thus, I can't really say for sure what compelled me to check out The Orville, but I was in fact hooked on it after the pilot. I can say this though: it is nice to see Seth play a more serious role for a change. I mean, it's still a comedic role, but I like that his character actually takes his job as Captain seriously; which was something I enjoyed about M*A*S*H*. It was a sitcom, but when the surgeons did their jobs, they didn't mess around. 3. (This one, I haven't actually watched any full episodes of yet - on account of it premiering tomorrow, but...) The Owl House. Disney Channel shows... aren't always the best, but I have greatly enjoyed Phineas and Ferb and Milo Murphy's Law. So, I decided to watch this one's preview videos and so far, it looks like it has potential. So while I'm not an official fan of it *yet*, I have set the series to record and will hope that it proves itself worthy of my enjoyment.

We really liked The Witcher a lot. But it took a while to figure out that they were playing with the timelines. Guess they did it so that all the characters could be in each show, but... It took some getting used to. Also, they did a lot of stuff that we haven't gotten to in the books yet -- or maybe made up (Yen's origins) -- at least, they haven't been in the first 3 books we've read. Still, it promises to be a pretty great show when it returns. We also just finished Season 4 of THE EXPANSE -- which might be the best SF show ever on television... At least since the time of the original STAR TREK. Great characters. Pretty solid science. We also watched Jame's May's OUR MAN IN JAPAN, which is about the Grand Tour guy trying to figure out Japan. Unlike the other 2 shows, no real opportunity for art or sexy characters. Started S2 of LOST IN SPACE, too -- but that's too early to comment on. S1 started slow but ended good.

I've been watching the Dragon Prince on Netflix, which is made by the people that made Avatar. It's somewhat similar but also a really good show. It's still ongoing and a few seasons are out so far, but as a fan of Avatar and Korra (even more so the latter), I thoroughly enjoy The Dragon Prince

I've also been playing a ton of Control lately. That game is amazing. Gorgeous and very story driven. It feels like playing a Netflix original. The protagonist could be an interesting SFW-only option since I know you dislike drawing real people (she's a CGI version of her VA). The game's visual style could be an interesting challenge for you as well.

Watched the Mandalorian. It was ok. Watched HBO's His Dark Material. As someone who read and loved the books as a teen, I'm just so happy it finally got the adaptation it deserves. The lead actress isn't great (the x23 girl from Logan) but all the others are amazing so it's still good. Can't wait for season 2 when stuff really starts getting WEIRD. My wife has me watching Final Space on Netflix. I like it more than I thought I would! The second season in particular can get very emotional sometimes. I'd love to see your take on Nightfall.

I am going to watch James May Our Man In Japan in the comming weekend, it seem interesting, but I am a sucker for Japan. I have also been catching up on a local show called Nak & æd, it translate as shoot and eat, and is about a hunter and a chef that goes hunting for something, the meal is dependant on the hunter, if he doesn't get the prey, they will eat something "disgusting" instead. So far, some of the more interesting things they have eaten are baboon, rat, peacock. I keep returning to Steven Universe, I just like the characters, though it has mostly become background noise since I know most of the episodes by heart. The Witcher, the Mandalorian are great too, like most people say. And if you haven't seen Wakfu, then it is highly recommendable, 3 seasons with some interesting characters. Also the Dofus movie, it had my full attention, it is not often I literally stop to watch movies like that.

Oh yeah, It's great how everything falls in place by the end of the season, but I can't help to feel it could be better organized across the episodes. I think GOT had some ups and downs. Seasons 1-4 for me were amazing, but after that there was way too many characters going on, and many story arcs felt really irrelevant and boring to watch. Which is a similar problem that I think it happened with The Walking Dead. They started to add too many characters so the story arcs were spread too thin to a point where they loose relevance and you stop caring about some characters. I think it's better for shows to focus on 2-3 "groups" at most. More than that, and you start to crop the episodes too much to give every group a 5 min scene.

Yeah that certainly helps. I think that's what makes villains like Thanos relatable. In his own distorted way, his actions make sense and he has a point. I think it's really important that villains have more depth and personal motivations behind their plans besides "ruling the world" or being a quest for power. For example, Fire Lord Ozai was a 100% the "generic bad guy that wants to rule the world". So for me, Azula was the real antagonist of ATLA.

always more Avatar! :D Have you watched Dragon Prince then? It was made by Aron (had to google his last name) Ehasz, one of lead writers behind atla. Plus one of the main chars is voiced by Jack DeSena (Sokka). Like atla it is aimed at a younger audience but I still enjoyed it. It manages to capture a similar feeling to avatar.

I think overall they made an amazing job with the cast. I had my doubts initially with Yennefer, but the actress did an amazing job with it.

It's funny. I personally thought the way they structured Witcher was brilliant. If you just keep watching, the whole thing fits perfectly by the last episode. I guess I had a leg up though, having read all the books and played all the games. I was pretty comfortable with the timeline. I knew what was going on by episode 3. And I'll be honest, I far prefer a show like Witcher than Game of Thrones. GoT had so many setup episodes that I was usually super bored watching episodes. Witcher had good moments the whole season.

I wasn't bothered by the timeline jumps per se, but more with the fact that until episode 3 or 4, it's not really clear that yennefer arc happened decades ago, geralt arc a few years ago, and Ciri's is around a week or so. On the other subject, I think it's really tricky to make a relatable hero. It's quite easy to make a powerfull, easy to like hero, but it's a more subtle line to make it actually relatable. And I think that's where Korra excels. At least for me, she feels like an actual person, with believable strugles, fears, good and bad traits. She definitely has a lot more layers. Which is something that I found in Katara and Zuko, but not really on Aang. Katara has very subtle changes on her across the seasons. She's a lovely person, but she has those fierce moments, and how she actually threatens Zuko when he joins the group, like "I'm nice and all, but if you do ANYTHING to him, I WILL kill you". I think it's the subtle scenes that make the character go from having that "teen love" to actually caring and willing to go to extreme actions to protect those close to her. And then when Zuko starts to be part of the people she cares about, she does the exact same thing to protect him. And while Katara and Zuko have to fight tooth and nail to grow in the series, Aang always seem to get the "chosen one card". So it's funny that I was more hooked to the supporting characters than the main character itself.

In terms of recent shows i just finished watching The Mandalorian on disney+. You may not dig a portion of it since a couple of the episodes are episodic but i just loved how they portrayed The Mando. He is a skilled warrior but he is not the best warrior in the galaxy that is suddenly able to handle any enemy with relative ease. The Mando actually struggles against his opponents which gives the show a sense of tension and excitement as we root for him to succeed. Also even though he doesnt take off his helmet so much of his personality comes through in his body language and how he carries himself in the world. The character has layers to him, something i havnt seen in Star Wars media since Star Wars: The Clone wars. If you havn't checked it out, Krys, i highly recommend it since you can get Disney+ for free for a week and season 1 of The Mandalorian has finished airing. Just bust it out during that free trial.

My issue with anime is that it really bothers me the "monologues" during fight scenes. Man I hate when in the middle of a fight scene, the character stop to give a wikipedia entry about the move the enemy just used. It's such a mood killer for me. And if I watch any other anime before Full Metal Alchemist, my gf will probably leave me lol. About Korra, I was really surprised to see a love/hate relationship with the show. There's a lot of reviews that people absolutely hate, because they were probably expecting the show to be more in line with ATLA (goofy, light weighted). And I was actually surprised to see people complaining that there are no filler episodes and that the seasons are "too serious". Because that's certainly a good point for me, since I usually hate filler episodes.

I actually loved the Witcher series. The timeline jumps never bothered me, but I previously read the stories the episodes were based off of. The only thing that bothered me was changing Dandelion's name 😆. As for the Avatar series, I missed the boat on the Korra one partially because of the same reason you didn't favor the Ang one, it wasn't serious for me. I did recently purchase it though so I've started watching it, albieit slowly atm. I've also started watching some of my favorite older anime titles. One's like Trigun, Cowboy Beebop and Ergo Proxy. I try to watch the newer ones but I kind of find them a bit derivative. I mean how many brooding heroes do you need? 😆

The thing with the Witcher Season 1 is that it is based on the first book of the series... which is a collection of short storys - so no surprise it is all over the place with story telling ;D

Been watching Witcher like i'm sure everyone else has. Definitely not the GoT tier show they advertised but it's bingeable (story structure needs work - felt like i was watching an 8 episode prologue). The Mandalorian series was pretty cool and feels like the only bright spot for the SW franchise right now. Oh and the Harley Quinn cartoon is strangely addictive with it's mad parody of the batman universe.

If you want an anime to watch, I highly recommend Cowboy Bebop. It’s only 26 episodes and a movie. It’s widely regarded as one of the greatest ever made and a great introduction to the genre. And regard ATLA to Korra. I’ll forever acknowledge ATLA is the better show(it’s overarching story is what gives it the edge), but I’ll always prefer Korra. Due it’s more modern setting and what not. In fact the audience literally grew up with the show. Everyone who was kids in TLA were now young adults when Korra came out, just like how the protagonists were young adults in comparison.

The Dragon Prince is really good, forgive them the animation style and frame rate issue in the first season, it smooths out as the series progresses, great characters even if they are a little younger there is room for development. Lost in Space is a decent remake and Castlevania was enjoyable as well. But definitely The Dragon Prince.
