What I love so much about the Icarus Falls album was that Zayn clearly was in touch with his artistic side while writing and recording it. He didn't make the album for radio success, he made what he wanted to make and it's f'ing beautiful. <3 Lovely reaction!

To understand the story behind Icarus Falls it's important to understand that it has 27 songs because its a "double album". So essentially the songs before the interlude have a more happy, bright sound to them, and the lyrics convey deep passion, love and hope. The second half becomes darker, more accusational towards the other, and less hopeful, to the point of almost becoming indifferent and numb. The story of Icarus is that despite being warned, he flew too close to the sun and ended up burning/falling. Throughout the album, parallels can be drawn between the "sun" and the significant other that Zayn is writing about. That all-consuming kind of fearlessness and passion in love is portrayed in the first half, and then in the second it shows how that love burnt him and left him broken.
