Lu Yi opened the task area and stared at the rows of highlighted missions. His eyes were starting to redden.
With trembling hands, he clicked on one of the highlighted tasks. It was a building materials procurement mission posted by the Administrator of the mysterious chat room he belonged to. This mission involved materials such as cement, yellow sand, and steel bars.
Lu Yi was not only amazed but also somewhat astounded after looking at it for a while. The quantity of materials to be procured was enormous, far exceeding the requirements for constructing a large commercial plaza. Moreover, the offered price was quite attractive.
Previously, he had seen the Administrator post similar tasks in the chat room. According to the collective knowledge of the members, the profit margin was around twenty percent, which was pure profit and not just gross profit.
In today's thriving business world, it was challenging for most trades to achieve a profit margin of more than ten percent.
Lu Yi had been managing his family's industry for over a decade, so he understood the ins and outs of it quite well.
A while back, his own corporation had faced financial difficulties due to high overseas tariffs. It was thanks to the inexplicable appearance of an invitation prompt on the laptop computer in his corporation's office. It had been pestering him for days, to the point where Lu Yi had been extremely annoyed. He had even tried reinstalling the computer and switching to a new one, but nothing had worked. He had no choice but to reluctantly accept the invitation, download the necessary software, and log into the Magic House.
It was only later, when he skeptically accepted tasks from the chat room, that he had earned a decent cash reward. This had helped alleviate the financial tension in his corporation to some extent.
Now, Lu Yi had complete trust in this chat room, which seemed like a secret business circle.
The chat room placed a strong emphasis on personal privacy. Aside from the Administrator, who had access to everyone's information, all members were required not to disclose their real identities within the chat room. Failure to comply resulted in three warnings, after which they would be expelled from the chat room.
Of course, members could communicate privately with each other outside the chat room.
At least, Lu Yi knew the true identities of two members in the chat room. They had found a connection and shared their real-life identities with each other while chatting in the room. They had even verified each other's authenticity by phone calls in real life.
With his previous experience, Lu Yi was well aware that the chat room's tasks were a form of welfare. However, he needed to find tasks that he was eligible to accept.
Initially, the tasks posted in the chat room had no restrictions, and anyone could take them. However, there had been incidents of individuals maliciously accepting numerous tasks, failing to complete them, and preventing others from doing them. When the Administrator had discovered this, the individual had vehemently denied using inferior products to complete the tasks. Ultimately, they had been expelled from the chat room. It was said that their corporation and even their personal bank accounts had been emptied by the chat room's backstage operation, the [P·C·F] organization of hackers.
Since then, the Administrator had begun to scrutinize those who accepted tasks. For instance, members who had been invited to join the chat room but didn't possess the necessary financial resources or whose corporations were unrelated to building materials couldn't pass the eligibility check for procurement-related tasks.
The procurement missions related to building materials had already been taken by someone else.
Lu Yi could only gaze longingly at this mission that was expected to bring the recipient over forty million in pure profit. He then turned his attention to the other highlighted missions, searching for something he could do that hadn't been claimed yet.
Almost at the same time Lu Yi, full of excitement, was searching for a suitable mission in the chat room, thousands of miles away in the Southeast Asia region.
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the largest city and capital.
Zhang Gongmu, a Malaysian Chinese, just like Lu Yi in the capital city of Xia Country, was gazing eagerly at the tasks displayed on his smartphone screen in the chat room. His excitement was evident as he muttered to himself.
"I can't do this task, nor this one... I can manage this, let's take it... This one's a no-go... But this one is good..."
Zhang Gongmu was a Malaysian-born Chinese with Minnan heritage. His ancestors had migrated to Southeast Asia in the late Qing dynasty along with fellow villagers.
Over a century had passed, and Zhang Gongmu's family had completely assimilated into the local culture. Like many Chinese families, they followed the Confucian principles of the Five Constants and the Five Virtues, which included "benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trustworthiness." The character "Gong" in Zhang Gongmu's name represented his generation within the family.
Similar to most ethnic Chinese in Southeast Asia, Zhang Gongmu had two names. He also had a Malay name, Zanlabi Zhang, where "Zanlabi" meant a devout follower of God in the local language.
In many countries with monotheistic religions, it was common for minorities to voluntarily convert to religion to avoid unnecessary complications. However, due to the significant number of Chinese in Malaysia, Zhang Gongmu, like others, often used his Chinese name in everyday life.
Zhang Gongmu's family operated a rubber plantation in Malaysia. Over the course of more than a century, their plantation had weathered various challenges, but it not only survived but also thrived. Currently, it spanned over 1,700 hectares, equivalent to more than 4,000 acres. In the context of Malaysia, this was considered a substantial rubber plantation.
The Zhang family also had its own corporation specializing in natural rubber sales.
A few months ago, while on a business trip to the neighboring country, Zhang Gongmu received an invitation code on his phone. He initially thought it was from a daytime customer and followed the prompt to download a chat application called "Magic House" and joined a chat room.
Although Zhang Gongmu soon realized that it was a mistake, he didn't leave the chat room. He discovered that the chat room, made up entirely of Chinese members, regularly posted tasks. Completing these tasks not only provided a decent reward but also earned members points to level up and access various benefits.
Many overseas Chinese might not be as politically engaged as other immigrant communities, but no one would refuse extra income.
Zhang Gongmu fell into the latter category. In the past few months, within the chat room exclusively for Chinese members, he noticed that the Administrator often posted tasks. He paid particular attention to procurement tasks, especially those related to rubber, after confirming that the offered prices were higher than what was available in the market.
The subsequent developments exceeded his expectations. The chat room's tasks were straightforward and followed typical business procedures. They usually included advance payments, with the final payment made upon delivery. Not once did they encounter the common business problem of payment delays.
Since then, Zhang Gongmu had developed a strong attachment to this chat room. Almost every day, he would spare some time to explore the chat room and see if any procurement tasks that promised substantial profits had surfaced.
Today, the long-awaited task had finally appeared.
