Maybe it's the clichè thing to do but I can't help but think that the roommate might be the one to introduce Brooke into the realm of clam. Though, I feel like she's intentionally been designed in an unattractive way to avoid this exact trope.

Poor, poor Brooke indeed. Even I am not clueless or insensitive, and this is coming from a person who's level of empathy has been described (by others) as, "So lacking as to be capable of fitting inside a newborn mouse's anus." (Yes, I have friends—however few they may be—that are that colorful in their allegorical descriptions.)
