Back In Paris
🕑 Added 2024-10-26 15:44:33 +0000 UTCYou may recall over the summer on my journey back from Florence due to weather. I missed my connecting flight in Paris and had to spend the night in one of the purgatory hotels outside the airport and fly to New York the next day. Well, as Yogi Berra once said it's déjà vu all over again.
I left Barcelona this morning after a late night of good Spanish wine with my new friends on teh commercial and got up nice and early and arrived at the Barcelona airport. There was a good amount of thunder and lightning and rain overnight and into the morning but had cleared up by 11 AM. I had a tight connection in Paris to get back to LA and I was a little worried about it but also very very excited to get home, reunite with Marilyn and kids and watch game two of the World Series tonight from the comfort of my couch.
The flight left about a half hour late as they were adjusting to some congestion at the airport due to the morning weather. The flight attendant assured me that I would be OK to make my connection, but it would be tight. We landed and I ran off the plane towards the next terminal over, which if you've ever been to the Paris Airport is not exactly a few steps down the road. It was about a 10-minute jog to a shuttle bus and then another five minute jog to the gate.
About 10 of us arrived at the gate just as it closed in front of us. Exasperated out of breath and desperate we pleaded with the gate agent to please please please let us board. But quite rudely, they denied us entry and told us to go talk to customer service. I've been on plenty of flights that held at the gate a few minutes to accommodate a late flight as had a few of the other people in line with me. But this French dick was not having any of it.
we all headed to the customer service counter and found there were no more flight available today. I booked a flight for tomorrow morning to Salt Lake City where I'll have to change planes to LA.
I called Marilyn and just burst into tears. I couldn't hold back. I was exhausted from 2 weeks of pretty constant stressful work and was so so so looking forward to just getting home and here I was back in Paris, about to have a night in Depression Hotel, miss my Dodgers... Ugh. I've now checked into the room and of course the air conditioning doesn't' seem to be working. and the sun is beating onto the side of this hotel - like Warren said, "don't the sun look angry through the trees?"
Marilyn suggested a go to sleep early, wake up and watch the game as a way to slowing work off the jet lag. we'll see. Fuck.
Fuck.

Airport overexposure stinks!! You’ll be better after a night of sleep at home—remember “when you see the Palm Trees of In and Out, your nightmare will come to an end.

God that sucks man. Sorry to hear it.
Ashley Oh
Aw, Tim, that sucks. :( I hope the next day is doubly good for you to make up for the shite situation. Maybe you'll be happy to know I've bought my VIP tickets to your show in Madison. My husband and I cannot wait to see you and talk to you again! (We were at the VIP in St Louis last year... And I got to dance on stage with you like an over-excited buffoon) We will have a 5ish hour trek to get to you this time! You're so worth it. ---Peace ✨

Don’t the trees look like crucified thieves?

Stress. Fatigue. Anger. Powerlessness. Combined and got you.

I have been traveling for work for the last 6 months and spent many a miserable hour sitting in Minneapolis airport delayed by bad weather knowing I would not be able to put my 1.5 y/o son and 3.5 y/o daughter to bed. I feel you.

Fuck Paris they did you dirty

i really appreciate you opening up about such a stressful situation. I definitely commiserate with you...on my way back from Italy we missed the connecting flight in London since it was too tight like yours. Had to stay the night over at, surprisingly, the nicest hotel that whole trip. but I hear you about the frustration...was stuck with a terrible travel party (family) that my friends and I were ready to part ways with for a few months. just that yearning to be home, on the correct continent, and in your own space...I feel ya. Get some rest, and I can't wait to see you all at Halloween!

Here’s hoping you had a few salty margaritas like the Z-Man.
Mary Newman
Damn, that surely sucks. I hope you got to watch game one. Even as a Giants fan I was cheering that ending. I think we've all been on edge lately and sometimes it just takes that one thing to send us over the edge. Glad you had your lovey on the other end to vent to. Reuniting and having the rest of the series to watch at home with them will be the salve your heart needs.
Chip Rascal
Hope you saw the game at least. That was a good one!
Melissa
Ugh I'm sorry T. It breaks my heart you're not here to watch the games!!
Thomas Schermerhorn
It really was. Being from NY, I kinda hated to see it.
Tim Heidecker
Wasn’t that something?

I extremely relate to crying on the phone with spouse due to yearning to be home yet stuck in a shitty airport situation. YOU WILL BE HOME SOON! I also think Marilyn's advice is very wise. It will be ok T!

I'm so sorry! What an unfortunate adventure in Paris (Gay Purr-ee) just to have doors close in front of you all! I hope the rest of your travel goes more smoothly! Hopefully you won't have to hang with the SLC Punks for too long 😆😃 We're wishing you well wishes! Excited for you to get back home! ❤️
Nick Brilleaux
Sorry, Tim. To feel better, check out this little British comedy series "Rovers", 6 eps about 25 minutes each. It may be on Prime in France, but in the U.S. it's limited to YouTube. I think you'd dig the humor and characters.
Bill R Tomison
I feel that. I’ve been there a few times, or somewhere like it. We all want to give you the biggest hugs ever. A long sleep will help a great deal. It’s not quite 2020, but it’s been another hard year, and I think a great deal of us are really exhausted. On the whole, we need a real break.
Doctor Tony
Sorry Tim! I was the gate attendant, and we couldn't wait because the co-pilot had a bad case of diarrhea. So, yes, it could be worse. Many passengers on the plane did not like the smell!
Thomas Dunleavy
Appreciate the honesty 🙏

The universe just provided you with a moment to reflect and release your energy and decompress. Gotta turn the shit into shine. 👽💩
Thomas Schermerhorn
Sorry Tim. Take comfort in Freddie Freeman. You’ll be home soon.
Surfnerd
Sending hugs. Hang in there.

Sounds to me like Aaron fucking Boone was making decisions at that gate. Safe travels, Tim.
