Chapter 173: Bayern Munich vs Arsenal End
🕑 Added 2025-10-05 17:31:13 +0000 UTCNorth London, England.
Every bar draped in red and white was holding its breath. The Champions League Round of 16 clash between Arsenal and Bayern Munich was nearing its climax, and not a single fan dared to blink.
The pace of the match was relentless — attack after attack, counter after counter — and every Arsenal supporter in the room could feel the tension tightening around their chests.
Every Bayern move toward the box drew gasps. Every Arsenal surge upfield drew hopeful shouts.
Half-drunk pints of beer and bowls of crisps sat forgotten on tables. Some fans gripped their glasses so tightly their knuckles turned white, while others just stood frozen, eyes locked on the glowing TV screens.
Then came the 80th minute.
Kai received the ball outside the penalty area. One touch, a glance, a whip of the boot — and suddenly, the net rippled.
For a moment, the world went silent.
And then—
“WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”
The entire bar erupted like a volcano. Beer flew into the air, glasses shattered, tables shook. People were drenched in ale and pure euphoria — but nobody cared.
“Kai! I knew it! He always scores when it matters most!”
“Captain’s goal! That’s what leaders do!”
“He’s unreal! I LOVE THIS MAN!”
“We’re beating Bayern! At the Allianz! Can you believe this?!”
“Oh my God—this is insane! Hahahaha! What a hit!”
The jubilation was unstoppable. Fans hugged strangers, leapt on tables, waved scarves overhead.
Before the match, Arsenal had been written off. No one outside North London gave them a chance against the reigning European champions.
But Arsenal fans? They’d never stopped believing.
And now, belief had turned into a roar.
…
At the Allianz Arena, Kai’s celebration was pure defiance.
As boos cascaded down from the stands, he sprinted toward the away section, eyes burning with adrenaline. He slowed just before the barrier and gestured with his right hand — a sweeping motion, silencing the jeers.
Then, with clenched fists, he unleashed three furious punches into the air.
“ARSENAL!!!”
“ARSENAL!!!”
“ARSENAAAAAAL!!!”
Each one timed to the roar of the Arsenal supporters behind him.
The stadium trembled with noise — not from the home fans, but from that pocket of travelling Gunners who were now chanting their captain’s name with wild devotion.
.
Bayern’s players stood in stunned silence.
Neuer stared at the goal in disbelief, his gloved hands resting on his waist. He’d been focused entirely on Mertesacker — expecting a cross, not a rocket. By the time Kai struck, it was too late.
He hadn’t even dived.
Martin Taylor’s voice on Sky Sports broke the momentary lull.
“Well, well. You can prepare all you want, you can read every angle — but sometimes, brilliance happens. That strike from Kai came out of nowhere. It’s the kind of goal that silences even the loudest stadium.”
Alan Smith added thoughtfully, “It’s the mark of a true leader. When everything’s on the line, and you need one man to make something out of nothing — Kai delivers. Time and again.”
As the camera zoomed in on Kai, fists still raised, the scoreboard flashed across the screen:
Bayern Munich 1 – 2 Arsenal
.
Moments later, Guardiola made his move.
Mario Götze and Mandžukić were called off, replaced by Thomas Müller and Pizarro — an attacking change meant to salvage something from the game.
Arsenal responded instantly. Rosický came off for Ramsey, and Jenkinson was replaced by Sagna.
Two coaches, two philosophies: Bayern doubling down on attack; Arsenal tightening their shape, ready to dig in.
Wenger shifted his men into a more compact 4-3-3. It was clear what he wanted now — protect the lead, take the away advantage back to North London.
The final ten minutes were a test of nerve and endurance.
Bayern threw everything forward. Müller immediately became their focal point — buzzing around the edge of the box, trying to find pockets of space. He’s always looked slightly awkward, but his sense for danger is second to none. Twice, he slipped in behind, forcing Arsenal’s defence into desperate clearances.
But Ramsey, fresh off the bench, ran himself ragged to contain him. His energy plugged holes all across midfield, giving Arsenal the cover they desperately needed.
And that freed Kai.
With Ramsey now shouldering the central workload, Kai could focus entirely on marking Robben — and he did it to perfection.
Robben’s night went from frustrating to infuriating. Just three shots all game, one being the goal— hardly the impact Bayern expected. Each time he tried to cut inside, there was Kai, reading him like an open book.
By the 85th minute, Robben had lost all composure. Every time he got the ball, he drove blindly down the left, ignoring teammates, trying to make something happen on his own. His body language said it all — clenched fists, muttered curses, angry glances toward his own bench.
At first, Kai thought it was a tactical choice. But as he saw Robben’s glare toward his teammates, the truth dawned on him.
So that’s it — a tantrum.
A childish fit from a world-class player who couldn’t stand being outplayed.
And for Arsenal, it was a gift.
Bayern’s left flank began to crumble, disjointed and unbalanced. Kai didn’t need to overcommit — he simply stayed disciplined, waiting for Robben to run into trouble.
By the 90th minute, Guardiola had seen enough. The match was slipping away, and he wasn’t about to risk a bigger deficit. Robben was hauled off for Rafinha, a defensive change signaling that Bayern were content to minimize the damage.
The tempo slowed. Both teams seemed to silently agree that the war would continue in London. Arsenal hoofed clearances upfield, and Bayern, though desperate to equalize, couldn’t break through the wall of red.
Then came the final whistle.
Full-time: Bayern Munich 1 – 2 Arsenal.
.
Kai wrapped an arm around Chamberlain’s shoulders, rubbing his hair, grinning from ear to ear.
“Well done! That header in the first half — that was brave!
Chamberlain laughed, half embarrassed, half proud. “Oi, don’t touch the hair, though! I’ve got an interview in a minute, and you’re wrecking my style!”
Kai only laughed louder, ruffling it into a proper bird’s nest before strolling away, satisfied with his handiwork.
Chamberlain glared playfully at his back. He thought about returning the favor, but quickly abandoned the idea — Kai looked like he’d take him down with one hand.
.
As soon as Kai reached the touchline, he was engulfed by flashing cameras and microphones. Reporters crowded around, firing questions all at once.
Kai, still catching his breath, smiled faintly. “It was a tough match. Bayern are a top side — they pushed us hard. There were moments where they had us under real pressure, but that’s football. You fight, you adapt, you learn. I know I still have areas to improve.”
He paused, then added with a calm grin, “But at the end of the day, the result speaks for itself. We came here, we worked for it, and we earned it. The victory belongs to Arsenal.”
..
In the post-match press conference, Guardiola was composed but honest.
“We never underestimated Arsenal,” he began. “They’re a great team and deserved the win. We weren’t good enough tonight, and that’s on us. There’s no excuse.”
A reporter asked about his tactical plan to contain Kai. Guardiola shrugged lightly, a faint smile curling his lips.
“It worked for a while,” he admitted. “But when he started dropping deeper, we had to follow — and that stretched us too much. Even knowing it was risky, we couldn’t do much else. He’s… different. Very mature for his age, strong in mind and body. Honestly, he doesn’t play like a 20-year-old.”
He hesitated, then joked, “If Arsenal ever decides to sell him, I’ll be the first to call.”
Laughter filled the room — even Wenger couldn’t help but chuckle.
When it was Wenger’s turn to speak, he smiled knowingly.
“Let me make it clear,” he said. “Kai is not for sale. Not today, not tomorrow. Even if the board tried to sack me, I’d still fight to keep him here.”
The journalists laughed again, and Wenger’s tone softened.
“As for the match, I couldn’t be prouder. Every player gave everything. They fought, they believed, and they executed the plan perfectly. It was one of those nights where you feel proud to be a manager.”
…
That night, news of Arsenal’s stunning win at the Allianz Arena spread like wildfire.
Across Europe, headlines blazed:
“Kai Leads Arsenal’s Charge in Munich!”
“Bayern Stunned by Gunners’”
“Player Notice: Missing Arjen Robben”
