Alptraum

oh wow, my bad. i think i didn't pay attention that bit. thanks for quick reply! :)

Civvie

I can understand the feedback and the sewer count criticism, but in regards to #1, puns are auto-detected due to an implant that was installed in the Wolf ‘09 video

Alptraum

Hey Civvie o/ this is another great Duke video. I have a few complainments, or should i say nitpicks about it tho. 1. AX3 wasn't there saying "Actionable Pun detected" before you got shocked. 2. New Sewer counter is not fun. It sounds and looks sterilized and clean. The previous one, with zombie sounds was funnier, because it was giving the impression of how annoying sewers are to you. So, when you changed it, it's not fun to see you getting tortured by sewers.

Maktaka

Am I looking into that "What a shame" too much, or is Deus Ex on the horizon?

DIEHARDMETALLICAFAN

Good shit! This game is a classic. Also do yourself a big favour, and watch Waterworld.🤌

Zubaz

Probably my favorite Duke Nukem of all time!

rw mundy

Thanks Civvie.

Nachts

Sorry Duke lovers, I'm the sorry bastard that had to click like to take the count from 69 to 70. F'n A Civvie! That intro was just just -chef's kiss- perfect. Baddass work man.

Dave Taylor

I spent a couple of hours playing it this morning and had a great time with it. It's not perfect, not is it entirely polished, but I'm not that bothered by a few rough edges. Wrath seems to be making slower progress but I'm excited for it, even if it is a bit punishing at times.

Kiros

The game was shoved out the door way too soon, I fear for Wrath. There are a lot of bugs right now, not least of all a possible save corruption (back up your saves if you play it!). The core problems Civvie mentions are unlikely to be fixed, but despite that I really do enjoy the exploration, the lack of a map didn't bother me at all. I stopped using the sword entirely, the first gem you get for the staff uses mana to yeet enemies into the afterlife. The spells do get better later, like absurdly better. The fire spell ignites enemies (zombies are resistant to it, but they're fodder anyway), and when they die they explode, lighting other enemies on fire as they do. And they run away from you when they burn.

ArkSeaside

Oh my God, this was actually the first Duke game I ever played, it's crazy to find out it's secretly *good*

Citizen Cain, PhD

Actually, I think the absolute maximum amount of ass the N64 could render was Adon from Turok 2/3.

Shawn Grant

OMG, this is one of my favorites from the N64! My dog has a pretty nasty cancer diagnosis recently, so this is very well timed! We used to play split screen deathmatch and we called victorian Duke "Mr Ingles" like from "Little House on the Prairie" and had good laughs and great times with this game.

JD Scarbrough

It worked for American McGee’s Alice

Robert K.

Not sure if the weird 3D platforming and unusual controls would turn civvie off or the absolutely awesome atmosphere and really clever level design make it his bag. You need to meet Shadowman on its own terms, but it's really rewarding if you do.

Tore Schweer

graven should be renamed to "unfulfilled promises" here is hoping wrath aeon of ruin is better

Tore Schweer

the art direction is really good though, but so many things that are just.... off, it is annoying. they are patching it, and if you like a souls like shooter, you will definitly maybe tolerate this.

Dénes Hliva

Well that sucks. I was looking forward to it. It had a lot of potential

Dénes Hliva

You turned Cruelty Squad into a coherent video, i doubt this is going to trip you up forever.

Dénes Hliva

Oof. Yea, i experienced that. I gave feedback on the game a month before release, which, admittedly is not much time to change anything, but they gave a wishy washy answer and i cant tell if anything is different or not

Dénes Hliva

Whats wrong with graven? I bought the early access for like 3$ a month before it released into 1.0 and it was alright, unpolished but fine. I havent had time to play the 1.0 much, whats wrong with it?

TempleTurkey

Finally, Duke video! Graven had such good art direction and designs but the gameplay, weird game mechanics and bugs are just straight up bad....

Civvie

It sure did! I don't know what they think the purpose of early access is.

Mateusz Bartoszek

This can't be good for me, but I--- who am I kidding, Duke and Civvie is always a blast

Ashley Johnson

I had this game but hardly played it because the controls were so terrible on the gray trident 🔱

Lobstarooo

I’ve playtested Graven for quite a while, and every time they introduced a new weird design choice people would complain and they would not care to engage. I stopped testing when the save system/respawning enemies got introduced. I physically cannot be bothered to play it since then. Very sad because it had a ton of potential really.

TonySki

At 15:13 I can't see anything but black. That water level really sucks to see in.

Corey Peoples

Shit I bought graven like a year ago

Fullmetal

Hey, that one works. Wonderful.

QuetzaDrake

My dream of a Time to Kill video are further dashed by this admittedly objectively better version of a time travel Duke Nukem game that I hadn't seen before. Doesn't have throwing axes or holy hand grenades though, so I'm still docking points.

JOE MOTHERFUCKING TREEFELNER

Fuck yes

Steve Downes

Aww, now I can't say me being addicted to crack was Civvie's idea

Bavaboi

Totally understandable The game is a trip, Good luck good sir, should you try it

doodles

God I never thought civvie would cover this but I always hoped he would. This game brings back such great childhood memories

Tore Schweer

Completed graven…… don’t buy it, it truly is awfully mediocre.

Valora Inverse

Oh my god, that was absolutely fucking delightful. I had no idea this game was so off the wall like this. I know the big comparison ends up to Daikatana for being first and more infamous, but my mental connection ends up being Timesplitters.

Civvie

here, try this one: https://discord.gg/hVYJSuyqud

fRiEnD

More cowbell? F*ck that... MORE BLOOD!

fRiEnD

In an alternate reality, Blood 64 and Shadow Warrior 64 exist....

Civvie

I think I'm going to generate another link and put it in. It sometimes decides to not work for people. I don't know why.

Civvie

Oh yeah I've definitely considered it. I consider it every year around Halloween and rack my brain as to how to translate it into an entertaining video because the game is so fucking strange.

Bavaboi

Hey Civvie, you ever thought of doing a Halloween episode on Golden Light? I remember in the Evil Dead video, you enjoyed it a bunch and I barely see anyone after doing a video on it

Brandon Smith

I still remember my Pentium 75. Loading up DOS. Launching Duke Nukem 3D. The computer needed to be repaired. A family friend lent me his i486 until it was fixed so I could continue to play. Never played the N64 version but, every time I see a Duke video it reminds me of the good old days.

Fullmetal

I remember being 10 years old and renting this from blockbuster. Don't remember much about it, just that I played it. Side note, the discord link doesn't work for me. Keeps saying invalid or expired. And yes, I have tried clicking it, pasting it in my browser, and pasting it directly into discord.

ZordLedd

We only had consoles when I was a kid so this and Time to Kill were my first Duke Nukem games. I didn't even know what Duke 3D was until later on when I had a PC and I randomly found loose discs of it, Nuclear Winter, and even a copy of Blood at a thrift store for like a dollar. The Blood disc turned out to be too far gone but surprisingly Duke worked just fine for a long time.

Dumari

I absolutely was not ready for that duke quote at the end of the video.

Axel Hunter

I didn’t have a PC to play Duke in the day, but this was my game instead. In spite of funky controls of the era, I loved it, so I’m glad you had a fun time going through it!

Dave Taylor

I guess your mileage may vary, and I think those issues are greater or lesser depending on play styles too. I do wish there was a map and a fast travel option as there can be a lot of backtracking. It perhaps wasn't totally ready for 1.0 by a lot of people's standards, but I'm not so frustrated by it myself. I think the atmosphere is great and I love the visual design. I do love using the staff with the white crystal to knock enemies flying into walls or each other, or switching to the explosive bolts on the fletchette to disperse a crowd of lower tier monsters, or gib a tougher one.

Nitesco

Zero Hour is surprisingly good at more than a few moments (with some BS). Even as a spinoff N64 game, I'd say it's underrated.

JD Scarbrough

Voodoo John Constantine travels across Hell and various other terrible places trying to stop 5 serial killers from making the plot of Army of Darkness happen. Really cool armosphere, good shooting and actually decent platforming for a 3rd person shooter. Worth checking out

David Jacobson

This game holds a special place in my heart. Before this one, I only got to play Duke at a friend's house on their PC, as my parents didn't think computers were for games. Then once it launched on the N64, I got it and played it non stop.

Civvie

I have not played it yet, unfortunately, though I hear good things.

JD Scarbrough

Civvie you enjoy a good metroidvania, ever play Shadowman? Either the original or the Nightdive version

Civvie

Every time I try to play it I run into 100 little problems that compound on one another and ruin the experience for me. Baffling design decisions, like having the shooty weapons in your medieval combat game be way better than any of your melee weapons or spells. Keeping encounters that were designed for when the spells worked better in earlier versions. An awful save system. An even more awful stamina system in a game that requires you to run around a lot. Melee combat that encourages you to use parries that are barely useful when enemies still knock off a quarter of your health. Melee combat that encourages you to parry when enemy attacks aren't timed properly to their animations. Awful AI that breaks at least once every encounter. Enemy spawn triggers that would make sense in a linear game and make backtracking a slog when the game requires constant backtracking without a map. The lack of a map. That being said, I haven't finished the game yet, so maybe it gets better?

John zelna

Loved this game when I was a kid. Thanks for doing a video on it Civvie

Binary Order

Been waiting for this one, and it's 40 minutes long. Great work, Civvie.

Dave Taylor

As far as I know, Graven has nothing in common with any of those games. I don't think it's unusual for a publisher to promote a game through advertising slots, either.

Robert K.

Graven has been sponsoring some other shows I watch, like Matt McMuscles. I don't know anything about it myself but I've trained myself to disregard basically every company that does sponsorships. If they have the money they're always terrible somehow (See: world of warships, honkai star rail, raid shadow legends)

Dave Taylor

I don't get all the hate Graven is getting, I'm having a lot of fun with it, and it's running fine? It could be clearer directing the player sometimes, but still not as annoying as Hexen.

Raul Campos

Man I remember playing this Duke game on original hardware way back in the day when I was 10 years old. Game was a ball buster since you could only save between stages, and of course there's the Nintendo 64 controller, but it was still a fun Duke Nukem game

RemnantCult

I love the 64-ified "nice model" gag!

Max Camp

Every time I think “hmmmm been a while since the last Civvie vid”, a new one appears 10 minutes later. Serendipity

Björn Birkelbach

YES THANK GOD AND CIVVIE YES, BY FAR MY FAVOURITE DUKE GAME.

The_Willson

OMG F**k Yeaahhh!!!
