Building a WOLF BODY!

Let's get straight into it. Starting with bare bonesI start with hot glueing some polyfil around the center of the torso for a little bit of formIt's the usual torso process for me: a large rectangle with slots taken out where the small of the waist will be. I stitch that around the skeleton firstTo the shoulders first, I trim a wedge and stitch upwards to the neck.Because it's a blunt...

Aerobics Zombie process pics!

Finally back at it. Let's get into itI have this lady an exposed spine! I started with the usual process of reinforcing the shoulders and hips with epoxy, then used stiff felt to give her some structure, and then a white fleece spine with black thread wrapped around to make sections.Carried on pretty normally to make the body shape, stitching it together directly into the feltClothes are leggi...

STRANGEGUTZ post WIP check in: Mistress Red Riding Hood

WIP check in: Mistress Red Riding Hood

Parts all finished for her, all 3 of her! I really love this sculpt, she's so charming and really gives "2000s rockabilly pin up girl illustration" which was the goal. I oughta do more with this mold!

Sculpting a pair of western boots

Lets make these thangs. The way I make shoes is different from any other sculpt I do- I "carve" them out more than the typical sculpting you do with polymer clay, Super Sculpey is fairly firm and easy to carve with a sharp xacto knife. Let's go!So, I start them out by tracing out the silhouette of the shoe onto a full on brick of super sculpeyI immediately decided this boot was too sma...

how I make SIMPLE HANDS (no wire supports)

I'm going to preface this by saying these have NO SUPPORTS IN THEM! When I make a pair with reinforced fingers, I'll make another post. These have no reinforcement because I'll be using them to make molds, and they don't need the extra support. On we go! I take two equal balls of clay, then flatten them into a palm shape- squareish and thicker at the bottom than at the top I roll...

STRANGEGUTZ post Big Bad Wolf head sculpt!

Big Bad Wolf head sculpt!

I am in LOVE with how this head sculpt turned out! I think I nailed the Tex Avery-esque vibe I was going for. I'll be making a mold of this handsome wolf, a long with some hands and boots (maybe multiple pairs?) he's going to be a leather daddy πŸ‘€ maybe I'll make a sexy/dominatrix Red Riding Hood to go along with him!

How I make hair wefts!

Here's a quick little step by step of how I make hair wefts!I will use: yarn, scissors, a hair straightener, wire cat brush, mod podge, paint brushes, and a silicone mat on a board Humble beginnings: I cut a bunch of yarn to a decent length, knowing it will be folded over- this is about 8-9 inch lengths of thick acrylic yarn. Remember that the fibers in yarn are only so long, trying to use sup...

Hot Mess BODIES! FULL PROCESS

I'm writing this as a 17lb cat crawls all over me, please excuse any typos. Let's get into it I start off by wrapping the midsection of my skeleton in yarn waste from brushing out doll hair (or polyfil if I have no yarn waste, but that's rare) I eyeball and cut out a decent sized rectangle- this will be our base torso. Vertically, it's roughly the same height from the skeletons cro...

Hot Mess hair and skeletons!

Small update before I get to the bodies! Just a lot of the usual pulling apart yarn and glueing it to heads! I had fun with the teal gal with yellow hair- i switched to black wefts and a black alcohol marker at her part to give her some major roots! The yellow gal and purple fellow have some scribbled on undercuts, I think it looks cool! As for the skeletons, I tried something new- instead of ...

NEW SET all sculpted! (Hot Mess pt 1)

Alright, let's go folks. I've been wanting to make some dolls that are a bit sloppy in an intentional way, and nows the time! This series is called "hot mess" and is inspired by the way people look deep into an evening at the club or a party.Apologies for any photos uploading sideways, I'm not sure what's going on with that 😬 The usual head process! Scrap Spirits pt 1!

I have so much scrap fabric, it's coming alive!I'm gonna serve y'all a whole bunch of WIP shots from these guys! (I realize now that all of my portrait photos are posting as landscape? No idea how to fix that right now. Guess I need to take all my photos in landscape?)The goal with these is to make the actual sculpting part as short as possible. Heads are just lumpy lightweight b...

More Bad Girls progress! Hair and bodies

The wolf girl will be getting a haircut when her clothes go on! I'm trying something new with the skeleton- a harder spine and legs, with softer arms. The body shapes ended up SO CUTE. With little bendy tails. I made a ton of little claws that will go on their big gloomy-bear-esque hands. Stay tuned!
