Shinji stared at him from the back of the classroom, the new boy in school.
He tried not to, Shinji Ikari was a boy of good manners. Tender and mild and all so polite Shinji knew it was anything but polite to stare. However, for the life of him he could not avert his eyes.
He really should, he thought.
Because the boy was, not to put a too fine point on it, enormously fat.
From Shinji’s perspective from behind the boy looked to be wider than his chair, with his back spreading out and his bottom drooped over each side of his seat. Surely someone that size would need more chairs to even sit comfortably. Now facing forward Shinji’s eyes returned to the boy and resumed staring in astonishment. Although,” the mysterious boy placed his hands on his massive middle and said in a chuckling sort of way, “The food here might not be enough for me.”
“Uh….” Shinji began to say, unsure of how to even respond to that. Was it rude to even comment on it? “Well…” Shinji scratched the back of his head nervously, no one had ever asked to have lunch with him either, it was a new experience that “...We could always eat off campus.”
Kaworu smiled even wider at him, “It’s a date then. I can’t wait to eat with you Shinji Ikari. I’ll see you after class.” Kaworu then turned, his entire body sloshing like a tanker full of fat, and waddled back to his seat.
“Ooooh,” came a teasing coo by Shinji’s fellow pilot and roommate Asuka Langley Soryu. “A date is it? Awww, is it lil Shinji’s first date? With the school whale?” Asuka teased and bullied him, saying “And with a boy no less! I always had my suspicions about you, and you just proved every single one of them right! Hey everyone, Shinji's gay!”
“I-I am not!” Shinji protested, blushing profusely. “Ha!” Asuka laughed, “Like you could deny it! You want him bad Shinji, I've seen how you've been staring. "S-stop bullying me!" Shinji whined again as class began to start and Asuka snickered.
"Have fun on your date!"
Shinji sniffed as the class began. Asuka was so cruel. He wasn’t gay, this wasn't literally a date. He was just having lunch with Kaworu off campus. He seemed nice enough and treated him better than Asuka ever did, so why shouldn't he!
When class ended he looked and saw Kaworu was waiting for him by the door, "Are you ready Shinji?" "I am," Shinji replied while holding his book bag timidly. Kaworu waddled slowly towards the elevator, saying "We should take the elevator, stairs tend to be problematic for my size.”
“S-sure Kaworu!” Shinji went to press the button. “I wouldn’t want you to be uncomfortable,” Shinji said thoughtfully. He felt relieved that Kaworu was the one to bring up his great weight, it wasn’t awkward for him.
Shinji entered first, but as he turned around he knew he had made a mistake. He watched Kaworu enter the elevator and realized it would have been better if Kaworu went in first.
Kaworu's stomach pressed Shinji into the wall and he let out an audible moan when he felt Kaworu's mass press against him. Kaworu felt amazingly soft, and not only that, he felt warm and inviting. The softness enveloped him, it felt comforting like all of Shinji's stress and anxieties could be exorcized from his very being. “Y-yeah, I am!” Shinji grunted out, feeling like he had discovered a newfound bliss. He squirmed and wiggled for what felt like hours, but in actuality was merely seconds. When the door opened up Kaworu smiled and shuffled out, allowing Shinji time to breathe and process just what had happened.
“Where would you like to eat?” Kaworu asked him, but Shinji was so flustered he couldn’t even answer as they left the school. “I-I,” Shinji stammered before saying, “A-anywhere is good to me!”
“That leaves plenty of opportunity,” Kaworu said, moving with a wide ponderous waddle. Shinji stared at how slowly Kaworu moved. Stop staring, he chastised himself again. Shinji was an EVA pilot, he had seen horrors which would boggle the imagination, so why, he asked himself, why was he so nervous?
Shinji swallowed before saying “I-I-do know one place, it’s a buffet, I like to go there before EVA tests.”
“Before tests?”
Shinji explained, “Well, the tests are so long, you don’t really get to eat for hours, so I tend to have big lunches so I’ll be fine for that time. Does that sound good?”
Kaworu smiled, resting one of his soft plush hands on his stomach he said, “A buffet sounds delightful.”
Shinji led him to the buffet but quickly realized there were stairs leading up to it. “Oh, um,” Shinji stammered, having completely forgotten this aspect of the buffet’s location. His eyes darted around in anxiety, worrying that he had made a mistake. Kaworu smiled kindly and didn’t think anything of it. “I’ll go first, Shinji. It would probably be easier that way.”
“O-Okay Kaworu, I’ll be right behind you,” Shinji said and with a gulp started to follow Kaworu up the stairs. He looked directly at Kaworu’s massive backside, it looked cramped in the stairway, like Kaworu’s bottom was so wide it could barely be contained. It surprised him how Kaworu was able to squeeze into it, the width made it seem like it should be impossible.
Shinji bit his lip as he studied Kaworu’s bloated cheeks, his black school slacks were tight around his cheeks, the shape of which could be made out. Suddenly Kaworu stopped walking and backed up, like he had missed a step.

Once inside hey paid upfront and got plates and started on the buffet. While Shinji built a nice light salad, Kaworu stacked his plate up. Macaroni and cheese , fried chicken, a few slices of pizza, he got a little bit of everything before they made it to their table.
Shinji nibbled on his salad while Kaworu was going through chicken legs. He took great big mouthfuls of cheesy macaroni, bites of pizza. Shinji tried not to stare, but again he was amazed by Kaworu’s ability to binge.
“Wow, that’s a lot of food,” Shinji couldn't stop himself from saying. Kaworu nodded, saying “I like food. I suppose you could say my appearance is reflective of that.”
Shinji looked away, “I didn’t mean,”
“It’s perfectly fine, Shinji. It’s important to like what you like. I happen to wear what I like on my sleeve.”
“Like what I like?”
“Indeed, and what I like is seconds,” Kaworu said before scooting out of the booth. A booth once more Shinji had no idea how he got into it, like the very laws of physics had to be broken in order for it to happen. He watched Kaworu ponderously move the dessert section, picking up plates of pudding, jello, and a slice of chocolate cake.
He really had no issue with being so big, Shinji thought. If he doesn’t have a problem with it, then neither should he, he reasoned. But the other thought was still in his head as he watched Kaworu shuffle down the line, staring intently at his enormous rump.

Kaworu nodded in appreciation, his thick chin squishing together making it look even bigger and said, “You’re a very loving boy Shinji.” Hearing such a compliment almost made Shinji swoon like a girl, saying “I...I don’t know what to say to that. Thank you Kaworu.”
Kaworu continued to eat and eat until he was full. Putting a hand to his stomach he smiled with closed eyes and said, “That was most satisfying.” Shinji had finished his salad before he checked his watch.
“Oh no! We stayed out too long, lunch is already over!” Shinji said with concern but Kaworu waved his hand, “Think nothing of it. Now we have an excuse to play hookie.”
Shinji bit his lip, it was awfully out of character for him to do something so naughty but he found himself saying “O-Okay Kaworu.”
“Excellent,” Kaworu said and left his booth, as did Shinji. As they left they passed by a claw game. Looking at it Kaworu asked, “Should we play it?”
Shinji put in a coin, saying pitifully “I’m not very good at this.” At that moment when Shinji put his hand on the control stick Kaworu wrapped his soft hand around his. “We’ll do it together.”

Shinji looked around the sparse apartment, “Do you live alone?” Shinji asked as he sat on the bed that was in the front room.
Kaworu sat down next to him and said, “Yes I do. I like solitude. There’s lots of things to like in the world Shinji.”
Shinji was quiet for a very long while before he said, “Kaworu, I have a secret to tell you.”
“A secret? Oh my, I like secrets too. I have one myself. I’ll tell you mine if you tell me yours.”
Shinji blushed and said, “I…like you Kaworu…I really like you.”
Kaworu and Shinji were silent for a second before Shinji leaned in to kiss Kaworu on the lips.
“Did that feel good Shinji?”
Shinji touched his lips with his fingers, saying “It did. I can’t deny it.”
“Now I will tell you my secret: I am an Angel.”
Shinji looked at him, “A what?”
“An Angel, sent to Lilith.”
Shinji immediately stood back up, covering his mouth, “Enemy!”
Kaworu looked at him with a peaceful smile and fell back on the bed.
“But I have no desire to do that. Humans are so…interesting. You are far too fascinating, Shinji Ikari.”
Shinji lowered his hand, “You’re not trying to kill me?”
Kaworu shook his head no.
Shinji slowly sat back down and laid down on the bed next to Kaworu.
“I don’t know what to do, Kaworu. I don’t want to hate you.”
