If it wasnβt mentioned in the comments for episode 4x2, there is a monument in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire, called the Shot at Dawn Memorial, commemorating the 309 men and boys who were executed for βcowardiceβ, now believed to be PTSD. They were posthumously pardoned by Parliament under the Armed Forces Act 2006.

On the note of being shot for going mad; accounts tell of soldiers that were diagnosed as mad, self-diagnosed, diagnosed by a fellow soldier, or lying about it, were dragged out without question and executed, the sentiment being βput the poor soul out of his misery.β
