Yes!! I was Onc nurse before NICU and no matter how many patients I’ve had pass it still hits hard in some way. Fuck Cancer!!
Priscilla
Yea I thought the same thing at first about the morphine but she must be giving more than ordered and not wasted properly. I agree she needs her license taken.
Christy
I do think you make a fair point. A lot of times the term “abuse/ abusive” gets throw around way too easily these days I would be absolutely shocked if my partner did anything like that to me. He’d need to be super apologetic and realize that it was not at all okay and would prob in the dog house for a day or two (and also he’s def sleeping on the now soggy/ wet part of the bed now lol) But I don’t think I’d jump to immediately saying he’s an abuser if that was the first and only time he’s done anything like that. As long as he’s apologetic and realizes why it was not okay to do that. Then yeah seems like something that could be worked past. Sounds to me like OP and his gf have really bad communication skills tbh. Like how he’s depressed for weeks. Sounds like he never even talked to her about what happened and how that made him feel. And she obviously needs to work on talking to him about things she wants. And not just jump to dumping water on his face, even if she thought it was a funny joke or something
Christy
Edit - never mind, finished listening to the story now where OP said nurse said it was technically prescribed and she’s giving it more often and under the table. Hope she loses her license and gets jail time tbh Tbh that part sounded fake to me. If it’s in the US, I don’t see how she could be administering morphine (a controlled substance) that often without a doctor’s orders. And without the parents raising concerns
Christy
100% I pray to God that OP got replies on their post telling them to report that nurse She needs to have her license revoked and not be allowed anywhere near the healthcare field ever again. I’m going into pediatric nursing and have worked with lots of nurses already - that thinking/ behavior is definitely NOT normal
Christy
Doubt anyone will see this now since I’m late to listening 😅 But I’m about to start my career in Pediatric Nursing And hopefully someone sees this and can know that that’s definitely NOT normal Honestly OP needs to report her friend to the hospital. That’s incredibly dangerous and weird. That is not how any of the nurses I’ve worked with so far think. Not even close. OP’s friend sounds psychotic and *needs* a mental health evaluation. Especially before she continues working (if her job even allows her to) But honestly she needs to get out of the nursing profession if that is how she actually thinks sometimes. That’s so far outside the realm of normal. It scares me how this person could think that her thoughts/ behaviors are anywhere close to “the norm for nurses”. That’s so inaccurate it’s scary

The nurse story makes me think of the British nurse (Lucy Letby) that killed 7 babies and attempted to kill 6 more! Psychopathic!
Amanda
Haha, don’t trust him Morgan! There are a lot of pop outs of IT. Wanna count to ten? 1… 2…

An abuser always thinks their actions are justified or "not a big deal"

Anyone else patiently waiting for spooky stories 👀
Simmy
I have to watch scary movies during the day too 😂

I’m a DV counselor who primarily has worked with perpetrators of abuse. There’s a few schools of thought as it relates to why or how abuse progresses. The overarching theme is that it is learned but how is that learned? Is it learned through testing the water such as dumping water on someone’s head and being able to get away with that? Or is it learned through observation of their parents or family members or from previous relationships? Sometimes both can be true. Perpetrators are not always consciously acting from a place of manipulation. Sometimes they’re acting from a place of insecurity or not knowing any better other times it’s a form of control and is conscious.

BIG. AGREE.

I dated someone who would do this to me. He would NEVER want to go out and would lay around in depression and pout. His depression was real and valid but so was his responsibility to take care of it. I could see how if this behavior from him is normal that his partner got fed up and probably really did want to go out. Her actions aren’t cool but him “being depressed ever since” man you need therapy bc you’re probably generally a drag

FIRST STORY. OH. MY. GOD. CALL SOMEONE. REPORT HER TO THE NURSING BOARD. OH MY GOD.
Izabel Krystowiak
Absolutely not! I am a nurse and a pediatric nurse too. Don’t get me wrong, I give hard medication like fentanyl to my patients but WITH a DOCTORS order. I would never do anything without an order. I would not laugh off death and I would not abuse my patients because they hit me. They are children who are scared and don’t have the same coping mechanisms as us. We as pediatric nurses have to be so patient with our kiddos. I would never hurt them or “do whatever I want to them” that’s sick and not ok. She needs to be reported ASAP! That’s malpractice and she should be under investigation. Nurses do have a weird sense of humor, it’s a coping mechanism for us. But I would never brush off death in front of families. What’s normal to us is not normal to the general public. Sounds like she lacks compassion
Rachael Davies
The nurse story - Check out a podcast about Lucy Letby, a neonatal nurse in the UK. She is exactly what this person will eventually turn into if nothing happens.
Lienke Stumpfe
As a soon to be RN, my mouth hung open. Unfortunately, I have come across nurses like this. But it is DEFINITELY not normal
Andrew
I dated a nurse. She had a very dark and morbid sense of humor. She wasn’t anything as bad as this one.
Hope
I forgot about the “I like the sedated so I can do whatever I want”. I’m doubling down, this person is unsafe. The friend needs to report to BON. Also how is she siphoning enough morphine to dose multiple times? Sounds like whoever is wasting with her isn’t doing it correctly..
Hope
Oncology nurse. When the story first started, I thought this nurse had taken the “ nurse dose” jokes IRL, which is scary in and of itself. I get using dark humor to cope but this is not that. I don’t like to throw around terms but this feels sociopathic.. I am around dying patients all the time. Sure some nurses become desensitized to death, but they don’t act like this. Most nurses I know, take on a little bit of trauma every time a patient dies. Grieve and mourn in their own way, but they certainly don’t laugh at families or dream of hurting patients.. feels like a case for BON
Gabriella
i didn't say it was justified or okay, but i think jumping to calling her abusive for that is a bit much if she hasn't done anything similar in the past. maybe she has, i don't remember all the details off the top of my head. Is it disrespectful, uncalled for, and not okay? yes. is it break up worthy? only the bf can determine that. Personally, if i were in his shoes, if my partner dumped water on me i wouldn't jump to calling them abusive if that's the only thing they've done to wrong me.
Hailey Hoffman
How is that a reach? She had an unnecessary physical response in order to hurt him. Nothing justifies acting like that.
beth semane
not defending the water throwing woman and i absolutely do think he should break up with her (bouts of depression after interactions with your partner is indicative of much deeper issues i think) but i’ll never understand when people say “if the roles were reversed.” if the roles were reversed he’d get away with it because men often do get away with it. if there’s been a cultural shift towards recognising abusive behaviour from men and advocating for women to leave (comments like yes girl leave him!! divorce!) that’s a response and a correction (debatably an over-correction but that’s a different topic for a different day) to the entire human history of subjugation of women. of legalised, normalised abuse, of treating wives and girlfriends as property or objects to be acted upon. so the “if roles were reversed” chat is always just bonkers to me. roles HAVE been reversed and men have gotten away with it since the beginning of time. simply call out bad behaviour of women without acting as if we get away with things that men never would. they HAVE and still DO.
Priscilla
As a NICU nurse I could not imagine doing or thinking any of those things that nurse in story 1 said. Also the fact that she is giving children Morphine like that is wild!!! She should not be in this field
Conall Reilly
am i the only one that thinks the second is dramatic? like you’re depressed afterwards for weeks because of a tiny bit of water? (hotel glasses are tiny) i could be missing something but im confused like
Gabriella
2nd story -- I feel like calling dumping water on someone abuse is reaching given the context of the story. im with justin
Eliza Walker
100% with Justin on story 2!
NYRangersJess
Justin please start with the miniseries of IT, from the 90s.. Tim curry’s pennywise is better !

There are a LOT of true crime cases similar to the nursing one. Particularly Lucy Letby, as someone mentioned above. There are a few other current documentaries sprinkled around Netflix right now too. Very concerning, I’m a doctor and cannot fathom doing anything remotely like that myself or my colleagues doing that. Truly livid hearing that. It is easy to get around the PRN time limit in some medical systems bc there will be a cut off on total daily dose rather than time restraints but she could likely get reprimanded for that if it was brought to someone’s attention. The assault on the child is a whole other story.
RitaNichole
First story….they need to check causes of death for any of her patients while in her care. Idk how OP even has to ask if this is normal.
Max Trimble
You were asking about like how people become abusers, and I wanted to chime in and say that the book “Why Does He Do That?” By Lundy Bancroft goes into deep detail on just that. Fascinating read. I think it was written in like 2002 but it still holds up well today
Talia
That first nurse reminds me of Lucy Letby. It definitely happens, and people like that are really dangerous.
Chelsea Wallace
I am a nursing student and this first story is absolutely horrific!

by people i mean teenagers from 13-17

in my country it’s common for people to drink in fields and parks and it’s seen as a ‘right of passage’ the attitude to alcohol in my country disgusts me, the thing america is doing right is having it at 21+ for sure.
gracie
i realised at 18 that i had an alcohol problem (alcoholism runs in my family) and would also turn into a completely different person i didn’t like. i’m 20 now and sober completely apart from a couple relapses. i never did anything as bad at that girl, but i’m very glad my boyfriend stuck by me and helped me realise i had a problem, because i was a huge pain. you are so right about alcohol being looked at too casually.
gracie
that nurse needs reporting asap!!
gracie
do you think you’ll come to the uk again in the future for a show? 💗🫰🏻
gracie
yes please watch fnaf it is such a good film! 💓
gracie
IT isn’t very scary at all 💗 i recommend it !! it’s got a nice story to it, just a couple jump scares!! 💗

That nurse needs to be reported the the board of nursing in that state. As a nurse, I can never imagine being immune to death. I see very sick and dying patients at work and it breaks my heart. I have to hold back tears sometimes going in rooms. I work primarily as a labor and delivery nurse but still float to help med/surgery and could never lay hands on a patient let alone a child. There are other ways to deescalate a situation. She is a walking red flag
Emily Ingalsbe
The first story is so scary. I have 3 kids and I can’t imagine how terrifying that would be when you trust the healthcare workers so much. 😭

I’m an IT hater haha sorry Justin
