To be fair, I don't think Tolkien himself would have liked the films, either. He was notorious for being opposed to adaptations of his works, or else overly strict. He also hated Disney.
It's kind of sad that Tolkiens son didn't like this film
I remember first seeing this at like 7 or 8 years old.
